POSTCROSSING
January 17, 2009
Last year I posted that a friend of mine introduced me to postcrossing. It’s a postcard crossing project where you send and receive post cards from members in all parts of the world. The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost free! The main idea is that: if you send a postcard, you will receive at least one back from a random Postcrosser from somewhere in the world.
To start:
1. Register to the postcrossing website (www.postcrossing.com)
2. Create your profile
3. List down the type of post cards you like to receive (i.e. famous landmarks, person, places, UNESCO sites, etc.) in case you don’t know yet what you want to write, you can check on the profiles of the other member J
4. Select SEND card. You need to request first 5 addresses from its database. They will be the one whom you will give your chosen card.
5. From the addresses you’ve got, check on their profiles so that you know what kind of cards they want to receive.
6. Buy postcards and send them to your 5 new friends J (be sure that you indicate the ID number in your postcard.
So, my first 5 cards that I just sent to last week was for Finland, USA, France, Germany and Spain. Apart of getting addresses from their database, you can receive more cards by joining their forum. The famous one is the Round Robin (just don’t know why its called Round Robin or RR). Anyway, I browsed selected discussion and chose the January RR by Julie and the US and Around The World # 32 by Lizkatze. There were 29 members who joined January RR while 10 for US and Around The World # 32. So you can imagine how many cards I’ll be sending and receiving as well.
Last January 15, while checking my emails, I was surprised that one of the 5 cards I sent last week, arrived already in Germany.

I was so happy since it arrived in good condition. I immediately send Reija a message thanking her that she liked the card. This is the card I sent her.

After a long day of work that day, I was surprised again to receive 2 cards from my US and Around The World # 32 RR. These cards came from USA and Germany. I immediately texted my friend to tell her that I finally got my first 2 cards. She’s happy for me and said that the rest will be arriving soon also. And yes, they are starting to arrive as just now, I received 2 more cards from the same RR. The cards came from USA and Portugal. I’d like to share what they have sent and written on the card.
Left to Right: Porto, Portugal; Richmond, USA; Connecticut, USA; Berlin, Germany
Certainly, this postcrossing thing is a good hobby as I can say it. I get the chance to learn something from one’s own country as they also learn from our country, the Philippines. So you get to promote the Philippines in this kind of activity. And aside from promoting our country I get to meet new friends, and be able to collect more postcards and stamps
.
Happy Postcrossing

I told you! It’s so much fun!!! =) Since I started in August, I always now look forward receiving new postcard each day. I think I have more than 300 postcards from around the world and approximately 200 Philippine postcards.
It’s addicting but in a good way. =) I have gained 6 postcard pals whom I constantly exchange postcards with. They are from Netherlands, US, Germany, Norway, Malaysia and Turkey. I guess I will keep promoting postcrossing to friends because it certainly made my world bigger and wider!
