Sabtang Island, Batanes - An Ultimate Summer Escape (Day 2)
April 17, 2009continued from Batanes - An Ultimate Summer Escape
Day 2 of our Batanes adventure will be a visit to Sabtang Island.
Sabtang Island is undisturbed and unspoiled island with lots of natural attractions guaranteed to satify even most sophisticated nature lovers. It is located South-West of Batan Island and is accessible by a 30 minute boat ride from Port Ivana.

Palm sunday at Batanes
Our boat ride to the island was a little bit rough that i felt bad during the trip. We arrived there at around 9am. We registered first to their Municipal Tourism Information Center.

The Map
Our first stop was at Barangay Savidug. More ruined stone houses could still be found here like the one in Sitio Songsong. Traditional stone houses is one unique attraction in Sabtang.
overlooking the pacific ocean the the south china sea.
More of traditional stone houses can be found in Barangay Chavayan.
Here, we met a 102 year old man named Lolo Marcelo, which you’ll be surprised to see that he is still working and can still remember his birthday clearly (January 16, 1907). According to him, he only eats natural food like fresh vegetables and fruits and no preservatives.

After a tour at Bgy. Chavayan, we went to Ahaw Beach Sabtang for our lunch. We had a bountiful meal that day. Imagine we had, lobster, seaweed soup, pork adobo, steamed fish, pakbet, fresh buko, and gabi and fried banana for dessert. What’s more we ate it on Kabaya (breadfruit leaves) instead of the banana leaves.

We only stayed at the beach for a short time since it began to rain.

One thing to bring in case you’ll go to any of their beaches is a pair of aqua shoe. This is because instead of sand, you’ll mostly step on rocks when you’re on the water. We also visited the Sabtang Light House after the Ahaw Beach.

another jump shot
We headed back to Batan Island past 4. The ride was not that rough as what our tour guide had said (well maybe because i already took Bonamine hehehe). In the middle of the ocean, our boat stopped and everybody became alert. We watched the boat man pulled out something and the funny part was that, while on our way back to Port of Ivana, they were also fishing and the reason why we stopped was that they caught this
It’s already drizzling when we headed back to our house. We were supposed to watch the sunset but since it’s raining, there is no sun to watch
We just went to one of the church at Batan for a mass.
to be continued…

Posted by witsandnuts at April 18, 2009, 2:09 pmI’ve always wanted to visit Batanes but flights tend to be few and far between. I hope more airlines fly there.
